Handwritten pages

φ on the iPad (coming soon) lets you write a document by hand, with the Apple Pencil, on lined, dotted, grid or blank paper. Open that document on your computer and its pages are there as you wrote them, sharp at any size. The pages are only written on the iPad; on the computer you read them.

Read the pages or their text

A handwritten document has two sides, chosen at the top of the page:

  • Ink: the pages, one under another, on their paper. A pen or pencil keeps the weight of your hand, and a highlighter sits under the words.
  • Text: the words taken from your handwriting, once you've asked the iPad for them. You can edit them here like any document, and your changes go back to the iPad.

φ remembers which side you were on for each document while it's open.

Colours

Black ink and φ's own slate follow your colour theme, so a page written in black reads in white on a dark theme. Other colours keep their colour, lifted a little on a dark page so they still read.

A page that only shows on the iPad

A page saved by an older φ for iPad says This page shows on the iPad for now. Open the document on the iPad with the latest φ and it shows here too.

Where the pages live

The pages are kept in your vault with the document, so they sync with it. Moving the document to the trash, restoring it, or moving it to another vault takes its pages along.
